Chronic kidney disease(CKD) is known as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease and promotes oxidative stress(OS). White matter lesions(WMLs), a form of small-vessel cerebrovascular disease, are assumed to be caused by chronic hypoperfusion or ischemia due to arteriolosclerosis. There is a high prevalence of WMLs in CKD patients. In general population, OS has been associated with large and small-vessel disease. No studies have explored the relationship between OS and WMLs in chronic haemodialysis (HD) patients.Aim of the study:To analyze the relationship between OS and WMLs in chronic HD patients, with the hypothesis that OS may be a risk factor for WMLs in these patients.
